Key Points

My Offer

I am a qualified English teacher with over eight years of experience in three countries. I have a lot of experience teaching for exams, including IELTS, but also SATs, TOEIC and TOEFL. I've successfully worked with many students to improve their grades and achieve their aims. I'm especially skilled at understanding the specific needs of students from Japan and China, as I've lived and taught in these two countries. I decided to learn Japanese and Chinese so that I could understand the needs of my learners in these countries from their perspectives. However, I've also got a lot of experience teaching people from many other countries in the UK. I have a CELTA qualification and have set up my own website to share my ideas about teaching and learning languages. Also, I am very experienced in essay writing, editing and helping people with speaking exams. I think my key strengths are being patient but also helping my students achieve whatever they are capable of through encouragement.

Experience

I taught in several language schools in Japan and China, where I taught people general English and English for specific purposes. This included a lot of teaching for exams, I even designed and taught an intensive course at a university in Japan. I helped students significantly improve their TOEIC, IELTS and TOEFL grades over the five years I spent in China and Japan. I also passed language exams myself in both countries, picking up many useful study tips for my learners along the way. In the UK I've taught at two different schools, one of them a well-known international school. I decided to complete a teaching qualification after volunteering as a teacher for refugees, when I realised I loved teaching and wanted to make it my livelihood. Before I became a teacher, I studied master's degree in political theory and a bachelor's degree in philosophy, so I know a lot about the university system in the UK, too. I can of course help with editing and proof reading, too, since I have so much academic experience. I'm currently researching essay styles in different countries so that I can help my students even more. Aside from this, I also do proof-reading for a Japanese journal and a Swedish company, as well as having designed my own website, which I am still adding too
